It was a big day for One Thousand Hockey Legs.

Almost 2 years back, when we set out on taking Hockey to some 6 schools of the city of Pondicherry - almost all of them never played Hockey in their existence - we had a dream that one day we will have a team that will represent OTHL Pondicherry; a team that will go around and play matches with various other teams in and out of their city.

2 years of toil and endeavor brought us to the day when OTHL Pondicherry team, co...

Its long since we saw boys and girls our schools on the turf. The long, long summer vacation, which is being extended due to continuous hot weather, has kept us away from hockey. This has thankfully come to an end at least in Chennai.

An enthusiastic coach has taken up training girls and boys teams of St. Anthony Anglo-Indian school in Egmore, Chennai.

We all know Mr. C. Rosario, the Phy...

Here, developing a rivarly brings satisfaction

18/04/2010

The preparations for the OTHL hockey festival began in the middle of March 2010 when I started calling up all teams to look for a suitable dates for the programme and ensuring they were practicing twice weekly. Ideally this should have taken place during the winter months but the academic session played spoilsport with all the schools remaining busy with various exams. With such a high premium on academic pursuits these days and Hockey being at the bottom rung and belonging to the endangered spe...

A Hockey evening to remember

18/04/2010

I had been invited (though no invitations are required for Hockey) by Mr. Shankar Chatterjee to join them in the ongoing Hockey festival organized by One Thousand Hockey Legs (OTHL) to promote Hockey among School Children being held from 8th April, 2010 to 10th April 2010 at various School grounds.

Due to my preoccupation, I could make it only in the evening on the last day (10th April a Saturday) to Shanti Sangha Shiksa Mandir in Parnasree, Behala. This ground on which the matche...

Another exciting day at Kolkata

13/04/2010

The 2nd day for OTHL team started off on a rather slow note. The quiz at Khalsa High School didn’t materialize and due to distance issues, the visit of Kanaipur Sirguru High School to Shanti Sangha Siksha Mandir planned in the first half of the day didn’t materialize. This was postponed to the latter half of the day due to heat factors.

In the afternoon session, OTHL team reached Shanti Sangha Siksha Mandir and started off with the OTHL Quiz. The response from the children was ama...

Kolkata League 1st leg concludes

13/04/2010

The final day of Kolkata festival and the OTHL team started early and reached Julien Day Kalyani where a match between the home team and Julien Day Ganganagar was scheduled. The match started a bit late and Kalyani school were never in the game.

JDS Ganganagar kept squeezing out energy from the Kalyani team on the bright and hot morning by hitting the board at regular intervals. JDS Kalyani hardly made any circle penentrations and were mostly defending the onslaught from Ganganag...
